Garlic is an ingredient which makes food delicious; besides it has a number of health benefits. It belong s to the Allium family, which includes onions, shallots, chives and leeks. It has bulbous shape with 10-20 individual segments called cloves.  The medicinal property of garlic is known from the times of Egyptian, Greek, Chinese and the Roman civilizations.

Garlic contains a chemical called allin, which is converted into another compound allicin, when chew a fresh garlic clove.  This compound has therapeutic effects. Cooking inactivates the enzyme which responsible for producing allicin, so eating raw garlic is beneficial.
