Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation

It is a first aid emergency treatment guide which is a combination of rescue breathing and chest compressions. It is usually done on unconscious or non breathing patient and persons  suffering from cardiac arrest(it is often caused by abnormal heart rhythm called ventricular fibrillation where the heart stops pumping blood and the patient may stops breathing, no pulse is detected this time  a shock to the heart called defibrillation required which stops VF and restore heart function)
Also done for near drowning / asphyxiation/trauma cases

Benefits of CPR
CPR conducts defibrillation
Supports heart pumping for short durations
Allows oxygen to reach brain and it should be done as early as possible

CPR steps
Lay the patient on his back on a hard surface with his chin lift open his air way

Check for breathing /conscious and if not breathing start mouth to mouth breathing (Pinch the person’s nostril shut and seal his mouth with your own hand and give first breath, lasting one second and If chest rises give second breath, if not give a head tilt-chin lift)

Restore circulations through compressions

Place heel of your palm on patient’s chest with elbows straight and place you r hand above first, then push down using upper  body weight .push hard and fast and give 30 compressions this is one cycle.

20 breaths /minute should be given for children under8yrs of age

Ribs/heart/lungs/liver may be injured
After CPR medical attention should be given
If done well CPR saves life
